Australia is a popular study destination for international students, offering world-class education and diverse cultural experiences. Students can study in Australia through a Subclass 500 visa, which allows them to migrate and study there for up to five years.

In 2024, around 220,000 student visas were granted. A Student visa in Australia helps an International Student to pursue different study options, such as:

  • Higher Education
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Benefits of applying for a Subclass 500 visa

  • Can enroll in the desired study program and university
  • Can be accompanied by your family members to Australia
  • Dependents can apply for a dependent visa to migrate with the principal applicant
  • Streamlined and straightforward visa requirement

General requirements to apply for Subclass 500 visa

Below are the basic requirements to apply for a Subclass 500 visa:

  • Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) certificate
  • Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • English language Proficiency
  • Health Requirements
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
  • Character Requirement

Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) certificate

International students must include the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), an official statement that the university they chose for the study course has enrolled them in the study program. The CoE is usually in an electronic format and gets it once an applicant is enrolled in an Australian college/ university. The CoE acts as proof that a college in Australia has accepted them.

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Statement

The GTE statement is essential proof that must be presented to the Australian government to prove that once an applicant's study course is completed, they intend to leave the country and return to their home country.

Proof of sufficient funds

The visa application must include sufficient proof of funds that an applicant must provide to show that they have enough funds to cover their travel and cost of living and pay the study fees. If dependents are included in the study application, they should prove they have sufficient funds to cover their living costs.

English Language proficiency

To study in Australia, applicants must prove their English Language proficiency. International students must provide test results in English language tests like IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE. The required score in these tests depends on whether they are eligible to study in Australia.

Health Requirement

International students need a health certificate to study in Australia. Before applying for a Subclass 500 visa, they must have had a health check-up and obtained a health certificate.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

International students should have health insurance—Overseas Health Insurance Cover or the OSHC, which will provide basic medical and hospital cover for the duration of their course. Students can purchase this insurance through their university.

Character requirements

International students should provide a character certificate and police certificate to get a student visa. They must also fill out the Character Statutory Declaration Form while submitting their visa application.
