Yes, international students can apply for part-time jobs while studying in the UK. However, there are some restrictions on working hours. If you are on a full-time degree course, then you are allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week. Students who have enrolled in a full-time course below degree level can work for up to 10 hours per week. In 2024, the UK has more than 46000 job vacancies for part-time job roles. As of October 2024, there are 831,000 job vacancies in the country.

What are the rules and regulations on part-time jobs in the UK?

The UK government has some rules and regulations regarding part-time work for international students. The following are the restrictions on part-time jobs in the UK:

  • Students can only work full-time after they receive the Tier 2 visa
  • Students must have a valid work visa issued for the whole duration of the course
  • On a UK study visa, freelancing, self-employment, or any contractual job is not allowed
  • International students can work for 20 hours per week if studying at a full-time degree level
  • Students who are enrolled in part-time courses are not allowed to do part-time or full-time work in the UK
  • International students can work for 10 hours per week if pursuing a short-term language course
  • International students are only allowed to do full-time work during the vacation or an internship added to the course

Note: The full-time work duration should not exceed 50% of the course duration.
