Yes, foreign nationals need to provide proof of English language proficiency through IELTS to apply for a Subclass 462 visa. The subclass 462 visa, also known as a Work and Holiday visa, allows tourists aged between 18 and 30 to have an extended holiday in Australia while supplementing their funds with short-term work. The visa is valid for 12 months and allows multiple entries into and exits from Australia. Visa holders can generally work for up to six months with any employer and study for up to four months.
There are different exams through which an applicant can prove their English language other than IELTS such as PTE, Cambridge C1 Advanced test, or TOEFL.
*Note: Applicants who have been educated for all primary years in English or have at least three years of education in English will not be required to take the IELTS exam or any other functional English.
