UUK (Universities UK) has released a new report by analyzing 137 Universities in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The report unveils statistics on things like student employability, research activities of the Universities etc.
Here are, as per UUK, 5 things you should know about higher education in the UK in 2018:
The most number of international students in the UK come from Asia. Asians account for almost 44% of the international student community. China has the maximum number of overseas students at 400,000. India, Hong Kong, and Malaysia are close on the heels of China.
The second largest chunk of international students comes from Europe. Europe makes up almost 35% of international students. Italy, Germany, and France are the top 3 nations with maximum students in the UK.
There are 52,370 Chinese students in the UK enrolled in post-graduate courses. They outnumber those in undergraduate courses by at least 10,000.
Other Asian countries where postgraduate students outnumber undergraduates are India, Nigeria, the USA, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia.
In the EU, Germany and Greece are the countries where postgraduates outnumber undergraduates.
Business and administrative studies is the most popular subject to study in both undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses.
Engineering was most popular among males while females preferred medicine.
43% of the engineering and technology staff at Universities in the UK were from overseas in 2016-17. 20% were EU nationals while the rest came from non-EU countries. 39% of the staff in mathematical, biological, and physical sciences was from abroad. 4 out of 10 academics in STEM courses are from outside the UK, as per Study International.
57.8% of graduates and 73.9% postgraduates are in high-skilled jobs in the UK. These students are between the age group of 21 to 30. 4.1% of 21 to 30-year-old degree holders are unemployed in the UK. On the contrary, the national average of unemployment is 2.8%. The rate of unemployment among non-graduates is 6.7%.
