A foreign national can apply for a Working Holiday visa (Subclass 462 visa) for up to three times. Subclass 462 visas are for young foreign nationals (18-30 years) who want to work, study, and enjoy a holiday in Australia for 12 months. Each Subclass 462 visa permits an applicant to stay for 12 months.
The first Subclass 462 visa has an annual limit on the number of candidates who can apply from certain countries. For example, the Australian government recently added India to the list and allocated 1000 visa slots. However, there is no specific cap on the second and third working holiday visas.

Foreign nationals must be between 18 and 30 years old to apply for the First Working Holiday visa.
To apply for the Second Working Holiday Visa, an applicant must complete the three months of specified work in a country. The three months of specified work mean a period equal to three calendar months, which is a minimum period of 88 calendar days, including weekends or equivalent rest days during their employment. To meet the three-month specified work requirement, an applicant must work for the same number of days that a full-time employee would typically work in three months.
The specified work is an essential criteria to apply for the Second Holiday visa; an applicant must have completed three months of work in selected sectors in Northern or regional Australia. This specified work must be completed while on the first Holiday work visa.
A candidate must have six months of specific work to apply for a Third work and holiday visa. Six months of specific work equals the six shortest calendar months of the year, around 179 calendar days.
The six months working days will consist of weekends and rest days during employment. Applicants are not bound to complete the six months of specified work at once or all with a specific employer. They can also undertake specified work for longer than the required period of six months. To meet the six-month specific work requirement, an applicant must complete the shift as a full-time employee in the role in any specified industry, typically in six months.
