How to apply for the US H-1B Visa?

The US H-1B Visa permits US employer to recruit skilled workers from foreign countries for skilled or specialty job roles. This visa allows the employee to reside and work in the country for six years. Candidates who are looking to work in the US under the following fields: Information Technology, Medicine, Engineering, Architecture, Accounting, Financing, etc. can apply for this visa.

 

The process to apply for the US H-1B Visa is as follows:

 

Step 1: Choosing the Visa Type

The applicant must choose a visa type from the Common Non-immigrant Visas based on their requirements. Different types of visas have different sets of qualifications and requirements.

 

Step 2: Filling the Application Form

The applicants must complete the Non-Immigrant Visa Electronic Application Form (DS—160) and ensure that they fill it out correctly. They must also provide the required information accurately, as once the application form is submitted, a window for changes will not be provided.

 

Step 3: Paying the processing fee

After filing the completed application form, the applicant must pay the visa processing fee. The application fee for the US H-1B visa is $780, and the registration fee is $210.

 

Step 4: Making an Appointment

The applicants must create a profile and schedule two appointments, one with the Visa Application Centre (VAC) and another with the Embassy or Consulate for a visa interview. They can log in using the credentials they used during the visa payment process.

 

Step 5: Gathering the required documents

The applicants must gather all the required documents to the visa interview.

 

Step 6: Attending the interview and submitting the biometrics

On the scheduled date, the applicant must visit the Embassy or the Consulate, where they will attend the interview and submit the required documents as requested. The applicant would be required to submit their passport-size photographs along with their fingerprints.

 

Step 7: Wait for the visa status

After submitting the required documents, the applicant must wait for the visa status. Once the visa is processed, the applicant can plan their travel and migrate to the US.

Eligibility and Requirements for the US H-1B Visa

The US H-1B Visa system is based on points, and applicants need to score a minimum of 12 points to become eligible to apply for the visa. Applicants can accumulate more points if they have the required educational qualifications and/or work experience.

 

• For every one year of college education (bachelor’s or master’s degree), 3 points are added.
• For every one year of work experience in the field, 1 point is added.
