Is 400 a good CRS score?

A CRS score of 400 is generally not considered a good score on an overall basis; however, it may be enough for specific category-based selection draws such as French language proficiency. To apply for Canada PR through Express Entry, a competitive or a good CRS score should be above 450. According to the latest Express Entry draws in 2025, applicants with a CRS score of 500 and above have increased chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA). However, you can increase your CRS score of 400 by improving your language scores, upgrading your work experience, securing a provincial nomination, etc.

How to Increase your CRS score? 

Here are some of the ways you can increase your CRS score:

• Increase your language proficiency: You can boost your language proficiency scores in IELTS for English and TEF for French. A CLB Level 9 or higher in all the sections would gain you more points. 
• Acquire a Provincial Nomination: A provincial nomination can give you 600 additional points. 
• Gain Canadian work experience: Candidates with skilled work experience in Canada can score more points. 
• Secure a Job Offer in Canada: Candidates with an employment offer from a Canadian employer can get up to 50-200 points. However, as per the Express Entry changes in 2025, additional points will no longer be issued for a job offer starting in spring 2025. 
• Study in Canada: Candidates with a Canadian degree, diploma, or an ECA (Educational Credential Certificate) can score higher points.
