Is ECA required for a Canada PR?

ECA also known as Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is required for a Canada PR.  This is an important step for individuals who have completed their education outside Canada. What are the categories of PR applicants that need an ECA?

• Applicants applying for a PR visa under the Federal Skilled Workers Program and have completed their education out of Canada.

• Applicants with an education out of Canada and need to get points.
• Applicants applying for a PR visa with their legal spouse are required to get an ECA report to get points in the visa application for their education.
• Applicants with a higher level of education like a Master’s degree require an ECA. However, individuals with two or more degrees will need an ECA for both.

The IRCC accepts assessments issued on or after the date the organizations were chosen to issue ECA reports for immigration applicants.
