Who is Eligible for Germany PR? 

To be eligible for German PR, you must fulfill certain criteria. You must: 

  • Live in Germany for at least five years
  • Have 21 to 27 months of work experience in Germany 
  • Have a B1 level of proficiency in the German language  
  • A valid German health insurance
  • No criminal records
  • Good health certificate 
  • A valid residence with adequate space in Germany
  • Pension contributions

  • A valid passport

Types of German PR

Germany offers several permanent residency permits for foreign nationals. The details of the different types of German PR are given in the table below.

Type

Description 

EU Blue Card

Highly skilled professionals fluent in German who have resided in Germany for at least 21 months are issued the Germany EU Blue card for permanent residency after 33 months.

Standard German PR Permit 

The German PR permit is issued to candidates who have resided and worked in Germany for 5 years and fulfill the other eligibility requirements. 

Permanent residency for family members 

Eligible family members of EU Blue card holders or German permanent residents can apply for a German family reunion visa

Permanent residency for students 

International students who have graduated from a German university and have worked in Germany for at least 2 years are granted German PR 

Permanent residency for self-employed individuals 

Candidates who are self-employed and meet the eligibility criteria for permanent residency are granted German PR 

German citizenship 

Candidates can apply for German citizenship through naturalization or investing, or by holding a German Business Visa.
