There is no minimum salary requirement for a Subclass 494 visa holder. However, the Australian employer must pay the skilled worker a minimum average annual salary of $70,000. Through the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa, Australian employers from designated regional areas can hire skilled foreign workers to live and work in regional Australian areas facing labor shortages. To sponsor a skilled worker, the Australian employer must be situated in a designated regional area and must be approved by the Regional Certifying Body (RCB).

Australian employers in designated regional areas must pay the Subclass 494 visa holders an average annual salary equivalent to and more than the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), which is currently set at AUD 70,000, along with the superannuation. Employers must also pay the Skilling Australia Fund (SAF) levy to the Subclass 494 visa holders. The SAF is set at $3,000 per nominated worker if their business has an overall annual turnover of under $10 million and $5,000 for those with a turnover of over $10 million.
