As per an official News Release announcing new judicial appointments, the Country Court of Victoria has warmly welcomed 4 new judicial appointments – Anna Robertson, Marcus Dempsey, Sharon Burchell and Pardeep Tiwana.
Pradeep Singh Tiwana, aged 51 years, has family roots that trace back to Kot Kalan village in Jalandhar, India.
Tiwana is the first Indian to be appointed as a judge of a Country Court in Australia. |
While Tiwana’s family belongs to Jalandhar in India, Pradeep Tiwana was born in the United Kingdom.
The family shifted to Singapore from Jalandhar, later moving on to the U.K.
Earning Bachelor of Law [Hons] from the University of Wolverhampton, Pradeep Tiwana also got 2 scholarships from the law school, a record in itself.
Pradeep Tiwana was a criminal barrister in the U.K. as well as a solicitor at Paul Vale Criminal Lawyers.
Admitted to the England and Wales Bar in 1994, Tiwana signed the Victorian Bar Roll in 2009.
Practicing in the U.K. until 2006, Pradeep Tiwana later moved to Australia.
Following a 3-month law course from Melbourne University, Tiwana started practicing in the Land Down Under as a criminal lawyer from 2006.
The new appointments to the Country Court of Victoria have been attributed to the easing of backlogs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby “making sure more people can have their cases heard faster”.
