ILR lets immigrants to live and work in UK permanently. There is no need to apply for any visas after getting ILR. You can apply for ILR if you have worked in the country for at least five years. There are many benefits of ILR discussed below:

Free Healthcare facilities

If you are born in the UK or you have received ILR, you will be eligible for getting free healthcare services from National Health Service.  The funding of the UK healthcare system is done through taxation. Due to this, NHS is able to provide free healthcare services to the citizens of the UK. Appointment with doctors and emergency surgery is free. You need to pay a fee for eye care and dental treatments. Free services provided by NHS are as follows:

  • Maternity services

Free Education for children

Schools in the UK are divided into state-funded and fee paying. The state-funded schools provide education without imposing any fees. These are usually primary and secondary schools. Grammar schools are also state-funded schools but they have some criteria for admission. Fee-paying schools are the senior schools. Students who want to go for secondary education have to pay tuition fee. The amount of the fees depends on the university.

Social security benefits

The Department for Work and Pensions provides social security benefits. People who have reached the state pension age are eligible to receive State Pension. Residents in the UK will receive Social Security benefits if they have contributed in the national insurance for a few years. The contribution to the national insurance is the payment made to the tax office.

Maternity/Paternity Pay

Maternity leave is granted to new mothers who can take leaves after childbirth.  Mothers can take maternity leaves of 52 weeks. Out of these, 26-week leaves are Ordinary Maternity leave and the remaining is Additional Maternity Leave. The salary for this leave depends upon the industry. Mothers are paid at a rate of 90 percent of their basic salary for the first six weeks. Paternity leaves can be taken for one or two weeks. You can avail of these leaves after the child birth.

Shared parental leave

Shared parental leaves give choice to both parents to take care of their child. The leaves can be taken in the following cases:

  • After the childbirth
  • Adopting a child
  • Child born through surrogacy

Each parent gets 50 weeks of shared parental leave and 37 weeks of shared parental pay.

Pension schemes

A workplace pension is the amount saved for retirement. Employers make arrangements for this pension. A percent of the employee’s pay is deducted and added to the pension scheme. This scheme will also provide tax benefits.

Besides workplace pension, here is the list of some other types of pensions:

  • State pension
  • Pension set by individuals

Holiday Pay

Workers who work for 5 days a week are entitled to get 28 days paid leaves per year. People who work for irregular hours get paid according to their time off.

Health insurance

Applicants will have to pay for a healthcare surcharge while submitting their visa applications. Healthcare is free in the UK through NHS but people who want to go to private healthcare providers can take up private health insurance. This insurance will pay some or all the medical expenses for private treatment.

Income Protection

Income protection insurance will pay regular income if you are unable to work due to illness, injury, accident, or any other reason. You will get payment till the time you get back to your work or you retire. You will be able to claim half to two-thirds of your salary before tax from your job.

Tax-free Childcare vouchers

You will be eligible to get £500 every 3 months for each child who needs child care. If a child is disabled, you will get £1,000 every 3 months. If you want to be benefited from the Tax-Free Childcare Scheme, you and your partner must be working and must not receive any support from Universal Credit or Tax Credit.
