The Youth Mobility Scheme visa is one of the UK’s most popular visas for young nationals (18-30 years) who want to live, work, and study in the UK for 2 years. Unlike other the UK visas for Indians, this visa is not available to those who have not entered the ballot and registered themselves. An applicant is selected randomly before they can apply for the visa.

Common mistake to avoid while applying for a Youth Mobility Visa

Below are some common mistakes to avoid while applying for a Youth Mobility visa:

  • Choosing the wrong stated arriving window

A passport with a minimum validity of 6 months is necessary to enter the country on a Youth Mobility Scheme visa. If an applicant applies for a visa using a passport without the minimum validity, the application will be rejected. To apply for a visa, it is best to renew the passport before the starting date of the visa application process.

  • Not showing proof of funds for 28 days

While submitting the Youth Mobility visa application, it is necessary to provide sufficient proof of funds for 28 days. This will provide evidence throughout your stay in the country. The 28-day period will work as an authenticity check to confirm whether funds are in your bank account and whether they are accessible to the applicant.

  • Applying for a new passport during application

If an applicant applies for a new passport after submitting the visa application, the old passport must be kept as proof of where the visa is held.

  • Missing the Biometric appointment

The UKVIS does the appointment through VFS Global for the Biometric appointment. Attending the Biometric appointment is crucial as it ensures the applicant's visa application will be processed.

  • Choosing a starting date before the travel

To apply for the Youth Mobility visa, applicants must submit their applications at least six months earlier. However, they must consider the application window if they plan to travel abroad within that time frame.

  • Not collecting the BRP within 10 days

Applicants must collect their BRP before the travel document expires or within 10 days after entering the country.

  • Not providing the accommodation address in the country

As a part of a Youth Mobility visa, applicants must give the UK address where they will reside in the country. The BRP will be sent to the post office to collect the visa nearby.

  • Not paying the NHS surcharge for the entire year

Applicants must pay the entire year of NHS surcharge even if they plan to work in the UK for 1 year of the 2/3 years on a Youth Mobility visa.

  • Applying for a Youth Mobility Scheme visa using a work email

Applicants should avoid applying for a Youth Mobility Visa through a work email as if they leave the job, they will lose access to the email.
