On a Subclass 491 visa (Skilled work Regional visa), an applicant can work in any occupation listed on the relevant skilled occupation list (SOL) or regional skilled occupation list (RSOL) but only in a designated area of Australia. A Skilled worker who is selected for a Subclass 491 visa can reside and work in a designated Australian regional area for five years and receive a permanent residency after three years of continuous residence in the country.

With this visa, an applicant is sponsored by an Australian state or territory of government or an eligible family member residing in a designated area of regional Australia.
