The government of Portugal introduced on October 31, 2022, a new Job Seeker visa for foreign nationals entering its shores to get employed. According to the announcement of the Portuguese officials, they launched this visa to mitigate labor shortages in their country.
With the Portugal job seeker visa, candidates can enter and stay in Portugal for four months and search for a job. It permits them to undertake work activities so long as the visa is valid for three months or until they are granted a residence permit.
This visa is valid for 120 days, can be renewed for 60 more days, and allows only one individual to enter Portugal.
This visa is granted assuming the attribution of a scheduled date in competent services within its validity period of 120 days. With it, the applicant is allowed to apply for a residence permit after the employment contract is formalized in that period.
After completing it, you must satisfy the general conditions for issuing a temporary residence permit according to the terms of article 77 of the Law.
Once the visa’s validity limit to look for work expires, without establishing an employment bond or initiating the procedure to request the issuance of a residence permit, the visa holder should exit the country.
In such circumstances, you can only re-apply for a new visa application one year after the expiry of the earlier visa’s validity.
When the holders of job seeker visas send requests to extend their visas, they should also send along with them evidence of registration with the IEFP, I.P., and an applicant’s declaration stating that the planned stay conditions are maintained, which will be evaluated taking into account the reasons that justified its granting.
Evidence of financial assets equivalent to a minimum of the total of three assured monthly minimum earnings. Evidence of the financial resources may be exempted upon demonstration of a term of responsibility with an authorized signature of a citizen of Portuguese or any other foreign country, having a lawful residence approval in Portugal, where food and accommodation are guaranteed for the visa applicant, as well as the deportation costs, in case of abnormal stay.
The responsibility term’s signatory must also demonstrate having the financial capability in the amount of, at least, thrice the amount of the assured minimum monthly income (€705).
You must pay more than one fee when applying for a Portugal job seeker visa.
It usually takes 2 months to process a Portugal Jobseeker Visa. However, based on the situation, such as the stage of the year, if all your documents are in order, etc., it may take more time. Therefore, you must apply around a month ahead of your intended travel date but not before three months.
Step 1: Evaluation
Step 2: Get your skills review
Step 3: Arrange a checklist of requirements
Step 4: Apply for a Visa Application
Step 5: Fly to Portugal
If you have completed living in Portugal for a period of five years with a temporary resident permit, you are now eligible to apply for a permanent resident permit. Once you achieve permanent residence, the job market will be open to you and you need not apply for a work permit anymore. Permanent resident permits with a longer duration, are much easier to renew, and you will receive benefits that are on par with the ones a Portuguese citizen is entitled to.
