13% growth in Indian applicants for Overseas Visas

Indian applicants for Overseas Visas increased by 13% in 2018 and 52.8 lakh applications were processed by VFS in the last year. The growth in overseas travel was significantly due to contribution from Tier-II cities in India.

The applications for Overseas Visas is witnessing yearly growth said Y-Axis Immigration Expert Vasanta Jaganatan. It is now evident that overseas travel is no longer the privilege of a few individuals, she added.

Applications for Visas increased consistently in metros such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Mumbai. Data has revealed that step yearly growth has also been witnessed in Tier-II cities in India. These include Chandigarh and Jalandhar.

A large share of the growth in overseas travel by Indians is from the smaller cities. More people from these cities are travelling overseas. They are eager to discover the unconventional destinations as well, as quoted by the Times of India.

Overseas travel is now growing in India steadily for more than 10 years now. The data revealed by the Union Tourism Ministry confirms this trend. It says that the number of Indians travelling overseas has been on the rise steadily from last 20 years.

Around 2.4 Crores Indians travelled overseas in 2017 which was an increase of 9.5% over 2.2 Crores in 2016. The numbers were merely 44.2 lakh in 2000. The 2.2 Crores departures by Indians in 2016 includes travel for all purposes.

It is estimated that by 2025 there will be around 1.4 Crores of just leisure departures from India. This is as per the joint report by Expedia and Centre for Aviation –CAPA.
