200+ Indians in leadership roles in 15 countries

As per the 2021 Indiaspora Government leaders List – released on February 15, 2021 – there are “more than 200 leaders of the Indian diaspora that have ascended to the highest ranks of government in 15 countries across the globe.”

 

Indian diaspora leaders, reaching the pinnacles of public leadership, currently serve as prime minister, presidents, legislators, Cabinet officials, and in various other key positions in 15 countries worldwide.

 

  By a ‘diaspora’ is implied a group of people that spread from one original country to other countries.   Indiaspora – a non-profit US-based community of global Indian diaspora leaders from diverse backgrounds – recognizes public officials of the Indian diaspora that are leaders in the governments of their respective countries.  

 

As per a UN Report, India had the largest diaspora in 2020.

The 2021 Indiaspora Government Leaders List draws from different government websites and other publicly available resources.

 

In addition to over 60 of such leaders holding Cabinet positions, the list includes legislators, diplomats, senior civil servants, and heads of central bank from countries “with significant histories of diaspora migration”, such as the US, the UK, the UAE, South Africa, Canada, Australia, and Singapore.

 

According to Indiaspora Founder MR Rangaswami, “These leaders are building a legacy for future generations, and one that extends beyond our community to all of the constituents and communities that they serve.”

Collectively, the officials on the List represent more than 587 million constituents.

 

As per the official Press Release by Indiaspora, “their countries account for an estimated USD $28 trillion in GDP, demonstrating the impact that these leaders are having globally.”

 

The 2021 Indiaspora Government Leaders List includes immigrants from India, along with professionals born in countries such as the US, Canada, England, South Africa, and Singapore.
