Indian passport is now the most powerful passport in the world

The Indian passport, which grants its holders visa-free travel to 62 countries, has climbed three positions to secure the 80th rank on the Henley Passport Index 2024 and is now the most powerful passport in the world. It is ranked alongside the passport of Uzbekistan.

 

Notably, Indian nationals can travel visa free to nations such as Bhutan, Barbados, Malaysia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, British Virgin Islands, Mauritius and Thailand.

Visa on arrival option for Indians

The convenience extends further for Indians, with options such as visa on arrival in countries like Cambodia, Indonesia, Comoro Islands, Djibouti, Gabon, Madagascar, Seychelles, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Iran, Bolivia, Burundi, Cape Verde Islands, Mozambique, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Samoa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. 

 

Top passports globally as per Henley Passport Index 2024

According to the Henley Passport Index 2024, the top passports globally were France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain. Based on information from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the report reveals that Japan and Singapore have occupied the top two positions for the five consecutive years.

Countries in the bottom tier as per rankings

The Pakistani passport, which offers holders to travel visa free to 34 countries is considered as the worst passport in the world. Dominica, Haiti, Micronesia, Qatar, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Vanuatu are among the countries.

 

Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq came after Pakistan. Iraqis can enter 31 countries visa free, whereas the Syria and Afghan passports holders can enter 29 and 28 countries without requiring a visa.
