According to the USCIS report, there is an increase in the number of Indian students in the US by 12 percent in 2021. China stands top in the list, but there is a drop of 8 percent compared to previous years. According to a report published on April 7, 2022 by US Citizenship and Immigration Services, enrolment of international students was impacted in 2021. In 2021, the number of F-1 and M-1 students was 1,236,478, which was a decrease of 12 percent in comparison to the year 2020. F-1 and M-1 are the non-immigrant visas. Another non-immigrant visa is J-1, but it is given to the scholars exchange program.

Around 8,038 schools certified by SEVP became eligible to enroll international students. In 2020, the number of schools was 8,369, and there was a decrease of 280 schools in 2021. The report also stated that China sent few students, and there was a decrease of 33,569. India sent an increased number of students, which was 25,391. The report also said that 37 percent of Indian students are female. The table below will show the number of students that are now being sent by different countries to the US:

The report said that a decline in the number of students can be found in Asia and Asia Pacific. Rest of the countries showed an increase. Except Antarctica, F-1 and M-1 students come from more than 224 countries and territories. The international population of students from India and China is 71.9 percent. In 2021, largest percentage of international students was hosted by California, and the number of students was 208,257. Exchange visitors in 2021 in the United States were 240,279, while in 2020, it was 256,944.
