According to the recent report released by SchengenVisaInfo, France stands in the No.1 position by surpassing all other countries in issuing Schengen visas. The report gives the figures for all visas that are issued by the top 10 countries over the past 13 years. In the beginning, Germany overtook France by providing 80,000 more visas. Germany led the visa issuance for some period of time but France consistently proved by standing in the top 10 position since 2009.

The issuance of Schengen visas witnessed an unexpected rise from 2017 to 2019. 35.1 million Visas were issued during this three-year period, and France alone contributed 9.7 million, which is equal to 27.8 percent of the total. This three year has been noticed as the highest visa issuance time since 2013 when the European embassy collectively granted 12.3 million visas.
The pandemic in 2020 reduced visa issuance unexpectedly by 3.8 million. In spite of this, France was the only country that maintained its superiority by issuing 25% of all visas in 2021 and 28.4% in 2020, exceeding other European countries.
