5 Residents in California have been arrested in connection with US Student Visa fraud. One more accused is believed to be in Taiwan. All these 6 have been charged with a plot to assist Chinese nationals to obtain the US Student Visas. This is by appearing for the mandatory tests for English proficiency for them.
The indictment of the Federal Grand Jury was announced in Los Angeles. It claims that the 6 accused utilized fake Chinese passports for impersonating 16 different individuals. They appeared for the required TOEFL exams for them at locations in and surrounding Los Angeles.
The defendants can land up in prison for 10 years, as quoted by the NBC Los Angeles. This is if they are convicted of using a false passport, identity theft, and conspiracy.
The US Student Visa:
The US welcomes overseas nationals to arrive at it for studies. Prior to applying for the Visa, they must be approved and accepted by their chosen US program or school.
