In another draw specifically targeting Canada immigration candidates with a provincial nomination, Express Entry Draw #156 had invitations issued to 557 on July 22, 2020.
The previous draw – an all-program draw – was held on July 8, 2020.
The latest Express Entry draw by the federal Government of Canada only invited candidates that had received a provincial nomination under Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program [PNP]. As it was a PNP-specific draw, 687 was the required minimum Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score.
As a provincial nomination fetches 600 additional points towards the overall CRS score of a profile while in the Express Entry pool, the candidates would have at least 87 as their human capital score without the provincial nomination.
With this, Canada has invited 54,357 so far this year.
This is the 9th PNP-specific draw to be held since the COVID-19 special measures were put in place in Canada. Since then, federal Express Entry draws have alternated between candidates under the Canadian Experience Class [CEC] and the PNP. Such candidates are more likely to already be in Canada as compared to those applying from overseas.
The previously held Express Entry Draw #155 was the first all-program draw to be held since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A tie-break rule was used in this draw. The tie-break applied was of November 11, 2019 at 08:51:21 UTC. The tie-break comes into play in situations wherein more than one candidate has the lowest score.
Based on the tie-break rule applied in the latest draw, all those candidates received an Invitation to Apply [ITA] that had a CRS score of 687 or above and had submitted their Express Entry profile before the specified time and date.
Canada is well on its way of achieving the Express Entry target of 85,800 ITAs in 2020.
As per the 2020-2022 Immigration Levels Plan announced on March 12, Canada will be welcoming 341,000 newcomers in 2020. Of these, 58% – that is, 195,800 – will be through economic immigration.
