Hong Kong has witnessed an increase of 7.3% in the arrivals of Indian visitors in Q1-2019. Around 83,000 Indians arrived in Hong Kong in the first quarter of this year. The top 3 source markets remain the cities Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. However, the demand from Pune, Cochin, and Ahmadabad is also increasing.

Around 50% of the overseas tourists to Hong Kong in 2018 were from the segment young mid-career. There was also an increase in the family segment that accounted for nearly 34% of the overnight tourist arrivals from India. The average duration of stay was 4 nights, as quoted by the Travel Trends Today.

Hong Kong Tourism Board Market Development –India, Director Puneet Kumar said that we want that Hong Kong remains the top priority among travellers in India. We also intend to keep developing their inclination towards Hong Kong, he added.

Our focus in 2019 is to efficiently engage and communicate with affluent young travellers in India, said Kumar. This is to bring alive the core experiences in Hong Kong. It includes festivals, living culture, and soft adventure in the great green outdoors, invigorated local neighbourhoods. Action packed cruising, global events and a vibrant nightlife and dining scene are also included, added Kumar.

We have chalked out promotional campaigns in multiple phases further added the Director. This is in collaboration with leading non-trade, trade, and media partners for engaging with MICE, cruise, and leisure segment, said Kumar.

The air connectivity on Cathay Pacific has been improved from all 6 key ports in India. 2 new LCC’s Spice Jet and Indigo are flying from Bengaluru and Delhi. Hong Kong is optimistic about the market increase in overseas travellers in 2019 from India.

Growth in the fly-cruise segment from India has also been witnessed by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. HKTB aims to stimulate demand for cruising from India. This is through diverse new products and offers such as Genting World Dream Cruises as well as other cruise experiences. It includes Spectrum of the Seas and Voyagers of the Seas by Royal Caribbean International.

Another segment with high growth is the incentive group travel from India. Hong Kong will launch a new era in MICE tourism in 2019. It will highlight a sea of opportunities for those who plan MICE through the latest products offered by the city. It also includes new MICE privileges of the Hong Kong Rewards Program, new experiences, and enhanced connectivity. These are all aimed at enticing incentive planners for selecting Hong Kong as their next location.
