In the second all-program Express Entry draw to be held within a span of 2 weeks, Canada has invited another 4,200 immigration candidates in the latest Express Entry Draw #163 held on September 16, 2020 at 07:25:09 UTC. 472 was the minimum CRS score required.

By CRS is implied the Comprehensive Ranking System that comes into play when the profiles are in the Express Entry pool. The highest-ranking profiles – that is with the highest CRS score [allotted out of a maximum of 1,200] – that are issued Invitations to Apply [ITAs] in the subsequent draws held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].

The previous Express Entry draw was held on September 2, 2020.

As no program was specified for the present Express Entry draw, “Candidates from all Express Entry programs were eligible for this round of invitations”. Those eligible included individuals qualifying for either of the following Canada immigration programs –

Federal Skilled Worker Program [FSWP]
Federal Skilled Trades People [FSTP]
Canadian Experience Class [CEC]
Provincial Nominee Program [PNP]

As per IRCC, the tie-breaking rule applied in the September 16 Express Entry draw was that of March 09, 2020 at 13:03:40 UTC. It is through the tie-breaking rule that precedence of invitations being issued is decided in situations wherein more than 1 candidates have the minimum CRS required.

According to IRCC, “If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.” Simply put, those with their profiles in the Express Entry pool for the longer time are preferred over those entering the pool of candidates at a later time.

The large Express Entry draws being held by Canada are a testimony to their commitment to welcoming a high number of immigrants in the coming years.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada has been holding regular draws – provincial as well as federal – inviting immigration candidates. While the focus in between had shifted more towards candidates more likely to already be in Canada [such as CEC or PNP candidates], Canada has resumed holding all-program draws inviting FSWP and FSTP as well.

As per IRCC, providing a pathway for Canadian permanent residence for skilled workers in Canada or abroad, “For potential skilled foreign workers, Express Entry will result in fast processing times of six months or less”.

With the latest draw, Canada has issued a total of 74,150 ITAs so far this year. A record in itself as it is more than the invitations issued by the same time in 2019.
