Australia is set to introduce two new skilled regional visas in November where skilled migrants will be required to live and work in regional Australia. This will also be a qualifying criterion for a permanent residency (PR) when the visa holder spends three years in that region. This must be supported with proof such as bank details, residence details and payment details.
The reason behind this move is to ensure migrants aspiring for a PR visa stay in regional Australia for a specific number of years.
This move is intended to close the skills gap in regional Australia. This new policy will also include international students coming to study in the country. This proposed move is welcome news to aspiring migrants to the country. The recent tweaks to the immigration policies have reduced the chances of a permanent residency.
The plan to introduce this regional criterion is expected to increase the chances of getting a PR visa. This criterion is expected to be less tough than General Skilled Migration. The government is expected to introduce two new regional visas to enable migrants to work and live in regional Australia.
Both these visas are expected to have a validity of five years and migrants can apply for a PR visa after three years of stay in regional Australia.
