James Bankole aged 54 years faces Australia Visa Fraud charge and has been brought before a Court of Chief Magistrates in Ikeja. This is for allegedly cheating N850, 000 of Mrs. Uzoma Akubueze his church member.
It has been alleged that Bankole dishonestly took cash from Mrs. Uzoma Akubueze. This was on the pretext of obtaining an Australia Visa for her, as quoted by the Nation Online Ng.
A resident of Lagos at Ebute Meta 64, Coates Street Bankole has been charged with Australia Visa Fraud. He faces a 3 count charge of false pretences, stealing and conspiring. This is before Mrs. T.A. Ojo, the Chief Magistrate.
Sergeant Nomayo Kenrich the Prosecutor alleged that the offense was committed by Bankole with one more individual. That person is a resident of Lagos, Surulere. The accused took the money from Mrs. Akubueze and assured her an Australia Visa and hotel accommodation. But he failed to do so, said the Prosecutor.
Nomayo Kenrich further explained that Bankole used the money for personal purposes rather than getting the Visa. He then gave a letter of undertaking for refunding the money to Mrs. Akubueze but did not do so, added Kenrich.
The Prosecutor said that efforts to obtain the money from the defendant failed. Bankole pleaded that he was not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate offered bail to Bankole for N100, 000 with 2 sureties of equal amount. The sureties must be employed and have proof of tax payments to the Lagos State Government for 2 years, she added. Their addresses must also be confirmed by the court, said the Chief Magistrate.
The sureties must also be relatives of Bankole said Ojo. They must also be residing within the jurisdiction of the Court, she added.
