The citizenship test for Australia has been updated. An announcement to this effect was made on September 17 by Alan Tudge, Acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs.
As per the announcement, the new test will be coming into effect “from the middle of November”.
The Australian citizenship is required to be passed by all wishing to become Australian citizens.
The key change in the new Australian citizenship test is that of a greater emphasis on Australian values. As per Minister Alan Tudge, by emphasis on Australian values is implied “questions in relation to our parliamentary democracy, and freedom of speech, equality of men and women”.
The guide for the citizenship test has also been updated accordingly.
The Australian government recommends and encourages people to study the Australian citizenship guide carefully in order to get a deep learning of the Australian values before they become citizens of Australia.

The updated Australian citizenship is aimed at making these newcomers to the country deeply understand “Australian values” which include the value system, unique parliamentary democracy, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of association, and equality between men and women.
From mid-November, an individual appearing for the Australian citizenship test will get 20 random multiple choice questions to answer. These will be from out of a pool of 200 questions.
Of the 20 questions that the applicant will be required to answer, 5 will be based on Australian values.
In order to pass their Australian citizenship test, the applicant will be required to pass each one of those 5 questions. All of the 5 questions on Australian values will have to be answered correctly by the applicant.
The announcement for the updated citizenship test was announced on September 17, marking the Australian Citizenship Day.
