British Columbia in Canada is launching a new immigration program for immigrant entrepreneurs on a pilot basis. This is to attract them to smaller communities around BC.
The Entrepreneur Immigration — Regional Pilot is a 2-year program. It will be launched in early January 2019. BC PNP - British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program will partner with regional communities in the pilot. This is for communities with less than 75,000 people. Immigrant entrepreneurs who intend to open a new business will be welcomed through EIRP, as quoted by the CIC News.
BC PNP announced the new pilot in an update. It said that the small regional communities in the province are facing demographic and economic challenges. This is owing to the aging population and shortage of opportunities for youth.
The initiative is aimed at optimizing the economic benefits of immigration to the province said BC PNP. This is to extend shared prosperity across British Columbia, it added.
The business launched will need to cater to the distinct needs that the participating communities identify. In return, the local partners and communities will have to support chosen entrepreneurs as they settle.
The inclined immigrant entrepreneurs have to undertake an examining visit to the community. This is to the destination where they will be launching their business. They must also get a referral from the community prior to registering for the EIRP.
A Provisional Work Visa will be offered to successful candidates. The BC PNP will offer a nomination for Canada PR. This is after determining that the business has catered to all the criteria specified in the Performance Agreement.
The BC PNP has said that the investment criteria and personal net worth will be decreased for EIRP. This is in comparison with its base category for Entrepreneur Immigration.
