In the latest draw on November 3, 2020, British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program [BC PNP] has issued a total of 76 invitations to Canada immigration hopefuls.

As this was a BC PNP Tech Pilot draw, the eligible candidates were required to have a valid job offer in any of the 29 key occupations.

Providing an expedited immigration pathway for international students and in-demand IT workers, the BC PNP Tech Pilot will run until June 2021.

The previous BC PNP draw was held on October 27, 2020. The October 20 PNP draw by BC PNP, on the other hand, was a Tech Pilot draw.

According to the BC PNP, “Processing times for 80% of BC PNP applications is 2-3 months from receipt. Tech Pilot applications are typically processed in shorter timeframes.”

Operating through the existing provincial immigration streams of BC PNP, the Tech Pilot is not a separate stream or category as such.

In the latest BC PNP draw, invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence were issued to candidates under Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC.

The minimum provincial score required was 80 across all the categories. The Skills Immigration Registration System [SIRS] of the BC PNP is a points system that allots a score to the candidate following an evaluation.

Factors that determine the provincial score – also referred to as the SIRS score, are – work experience, level of education, proficiency in English, as well as the location of employment in BC.

From its launch in May 2017, the BC PNP Tech Pilot has supported the nomination of more than 4,200 tech workers for permanent residence in Canada. The Pilot ensures that the technology sector in the province of British Columbia “can attract and retain the talent it needs to sustain and grow the sector further”.

In order to be considered eligible by BC PNP for the Tech Pilot, the applicant must fulfil all requirements of their job offer in BC. Their job offer must be –

Under any of the 29 tech occupations
For a minimum of 1 year’s duration
With at least 120 remaining of the job offer at the time of applying

Under the BC PNP Tech Pilot, weekly invitations are issued to qualified registrants that have valid job offers in any of the 29 key occupations.

Candidates that have received an invitation will have 30 days for submitting a complete application to the BC PNP.

Express Entry candidates that are successful in securing a PNP nomination are allotted an additional 600 points towards their Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score, thereby ensuring that they are issued an invitation to apply for Canada PR in the next federal Express Entry draw.

The latest all-program Express Entry Draw #165 held on October 14, 2020, had a minimum CRS score requirement of 471.
