A total of 57 foreign tech workers and international students have been invited in the latest Tech Pilot draw held by British Columbia on July 7, 2020. With this, 14 tech-only draws have been held by the province so far in 2020.
British Columbia is among the 9 provinces and 2 territories that are a part of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program [PNP].
The previous BC PNP Tech Pilot draw was held on June 23, 2020.
The latest draw saw invitations to apply for a provincial nomination being sent to Canada immigration candidates under the Skilled Immigration [SI] and Express Entry BC [EEBC] streams.
As this was a Tech Pilot draw, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program [BC PNP] specifically targeted candidates with a valid 1-year job offer in any of the 29 tech occupations that are in demand in the province.
In order to be eligible, there should be a minimum of 120 days remaining of the job offer at the time of application.
The BC Tech Pilot is not a separate category or stream as such.
Launched in 2017, the Tech Pilot of the BC PNP is for assisting employers in the province in attracting potential immigrants in the sector of Information Technology [IT]. The Tech Pilot facilitates the Canada immigration process for foreign tech workers as well as international students.
Tech Pilot applications get priority processing.
Recently, an announcement was made regarding the extension of the Tech Pilot until Jun 2021.
Overview of the July 7, 2020, BC PNP draw – Tech Pilot draw – Total 57 invitations sent:
Category | Minimum Expression of Interest [EOI] Score |
EEBC – Skilled Worker | 80 |
EEBC – International Graduate | 80 |
SI – Skilled Worker | 80 |
SI – International Graduate | 80 |
In 2019, a total of 1,509 candidates were nominated through the Tech Pilot, registering a 33% increase over the previous year. Tech Pilot nominations accounted for 23% of all nominations by British Columbia in 2019.
600 additional points that are fetched by a provincial nomination effectively guarantee that the candidate would be issued an invitation to apply in the subsequent federal draw to be held.
For being considered for immigration to the province of British Columbia through the categories of Skilled Worker and International Graduate, the individual must begin with the creation of their profile through the BC PNP online portal, registering under their Skills Immigration Registration System [SIRS].
