How to cut your Canadian student permit wait time by 9 weeks?
Canada announces open work permit for PGWP holders
The Canadian High Commission in Delhi has asked the Indian students to discuss the options with their universities regarding their courses. The high commission has done so as students are waiting to get their visas for weeks and months and they may not be able to migrate to Canada at the time of the starting of their classes.
The high commission has accepted that a large number of student visas have been received for processing. High commission has accepted in the tweets that students who want to study in Canada are experiencing long wait times for the decision on their applications and they have to make adjustments in their travel plans.
Steps are being taken to reduce the wait times. The current processing time of a student visa is 12 weeks. This also includes the applications sent under Student Direct Stream. The high commission has requested the Indian students to contact their Designated Learning Institution in Canada to discuss the options if they are unable to arrive on time of starting of their courses.
IRCC has stated that in the first five months of 2022, the number of applications received for student permit is 123,500 from Indian students. This number wash is 55 percent more than the number in 2019 during the same period.
The total number of applications processed between January and May 2022 is 221,522. Out of these, around 50 percent of the applications belonged to the Indian residents. The current processing time is 12 weeks but it does not include the time of providing the biometrics. Students need to apply as early as possible so that they can attend the classes of their first semester on time.
