Canada, popularly known as the most immigration-friendly destination, exceeds its immigration target by landing 405,303 new permanent residents in 2021, as per the IRCC data. That means the country exceeds the actual immigration levels plan 2021.

Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023

The country immigration levels plan 2021-2023 welcomes 401,000 immigrants in 2021 in order to recover the economy, which was down due to the pandemic effect. This post-pandemic recovery plan is succeeded by welcoming more than 401,000 immigrants.

Highlights of IRCC 2021

  • Focused on transitioning temporary residents to permanent residents
  • Held Express Entry draws and invited higher numbers of Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates
  • Launched six TR to PR pathways to land some additional 90,000 international students and temporary foreign workers
  • Invited a large number of candidates in 2021 through various pathways in half i.e., till June
  • Later it concluded by landing more than 40,000 permanent residents per month in the last 4 months
  • Invested more than 100$ million for the settlement of newcomers

How did Canada’s new immigrants land in 2021?

The country almost followed its immigration level plan 2021, except in a few classes. In a few, it invited more than it targeted and invited less number of candidates. But on a total, it invited 4,05,303 immigrants, and the details are mentioned below:

CEC leads the way, accounting one-third of new PR's

The CEC has become the leading pathway for landing new permanent residents. In 2021, the CEC pathway landed 130,555 people, which accounts for 32 percent of all immigrants. This is recorded as the biggest draw in 2021. Whereas in 2020, it landed 9 percent of all new landings.

 

For instance, IRCC landed 27,332 CEC candidates in the Express Entry pool on February 13, 2021. It also landed 8,320 people under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) in 2021. Later in December 2021, the processing was increased, and finalized 800 FSWP applications per week. Few of them, around 23,885 people, were landed through temporary TR to PR program.  The top countries of Canada’s new immigrant landings are listed below. Among these, India remains the leading country, similar to the pre-pandemic levels. It is even 25 percent higher than the landings in 2019.

Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024

In 2022, Canada targeted to land 411,000 people, which will be updated when the federal government has announced the new Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024 on February 14, 2022. This new plan will outline the immigration targets over the next three years under different admission classes and programs targeted to invite.
