Another round of invitations has been held under Canada’s Express Entry system. Express Entry draws come under the federal department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
On January 19, 2022, another 1,036 candidates received invitations by IRCC to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry of Canada. The candidates invited had their profiles in the Express Entry system and also received a nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
There are around 80 immigration pathways available under Canadian PNP. Some are linked with Express Entry. A nomination – under any of the Express Entry-linked PNP routes – is worth CRS 600 in itself.
Here, by ‘CRS’ is implied the Comprehensive Ranking System. The higher the CRS that you have, the better the chances of your being invited to apply for permanent residence in a subsequent IRCC draw.

What is the Express Entry system of Canada?
Launched in 2015, Express Entry is an online application management system used by the federal government of Canada to manage Canadian immigration applications from skilled workers.
Three separate immigration programs come under the Express Entry system –
[1] Federal Skilled Worker program (FSWP): For skilled with foreign work experience. Other eligibility criteria must also be met.
[2] Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For skilled workers that have previous and recent (that is, gained within the last three years) Canadian work experience.
[3] Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For skilled workers qualified in a skilled trade. A certificate of qualification or a valid job offer in Canada will be required.
An individual eligible for any one of the Express Entry programs can also apply to take the PNP route. Those successful in securing PNP nomination get extra points and get invited to apply much quicker.
Since March 2020, IRCC has generally been alternating between inviting CEC and PNP candidates. The last time that FSWP candidates received invitations was in December 2020. |
The latest Express Entry round of invitations is the second federal draw to be held so far in 2022. Altogether, 1,428 invitations to apply have been issued in 2022.
As per the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan, in 2022, as many as 110,500 will get their Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry.
