Canada has held another round of invitations – the first to be held in 2022 – under the Express Entry system. Express Entry submissions are handled through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
On January 5, 2022, the federal government of Canada invited 392 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence through IRCC Express Entry.
The latest federal draw is Express Entry Draw #213. The first Express Entry draw was held on January 31, 2015.

IRCC applies the tie-breaking rule only in situations wherein more than one profiles has the minimum required CRS cut-off. Here, by the CRS is implied the ranking score of that candidate, allotted following an assessment on a 1,200-point Comprehensive Ranking System matrix.
With the tie-breaking rule, profiles created earlier gain precedence over those submitted to the IRCC pool at a later date. In the latest draw by IRCC, profiles that were issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were those with their ranking score CRS 808 and above and created before March 04, 2021 at 16:57:50 UTC.
Worth 600 CRS points on its own, a PNP nomination guarantees an invitation to apply from IRCC. While you might create your Express Entry profile, you cannot apply for Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry unless specifically invited by IRCC to do so.
Invitations by IRCC are sent out in the federal draws held from time to time.
Which programs come under Canada’s Express Entry system? |
(1) Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) (2) Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) (3) Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Some pathways under Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are also linked with the Express Entry system. There are around 80 immigration pathways or ‘streams’ under Canadian PNP. |
Permanent residence submissions through Express Entry have a standard processing time of within six months from the date of receipt by IRCC. Provided, however, that you submit a Decision Ready Application that is missing no required information and needs no further documents to be submitted.
411,000 are to be granted Canadian permanent residence in 2022. Of these, a majority will be through economic immigration. Express Entry admissions target for 2022 stands at 110,500.
As on January 4, 2022, there were a total of 193,148 profiles in the Express Entry pool of Canada immigration hopefuls.
