PGWP applicants Cheering news for PGWP applicants! Till 2019, online studies are not considered for Post-Graduation Work Permit, but the advent of COVID has changed all these. Canada allows international students to complete their online studies and are eligible for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after completing their course. Extension of PGWP period The Great White North has extended the eligibility period for online studies from December 31, 2021, to August 31, 2022. This measure is taken to allow international students to complete their studies for the PGWP, which were affected due to the pandemic.
Highlights The Canadian government website says the rule applies even if you are completing two study programs, as long as the programs were ongoing or started between March 2020 and summer 2022. Study programs must be with an eligible Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and meet other PGWP requirements. The shortest length a program may be is eight months. The time spent studying outside Canada after August 31, 2022, and any time spent studying before you applied for a study permit does not count toward the length of a PGWP.
Candidates need to make sure about the length of their study because it is essential for
  • PGWP eligibility
  • Determining how long candidates PGWP will be valid for
This is because if the candidates' study program is more than eight months and less than two years, the PGWP’s validity will match the period of the study program. If it is more than two years, then the PGWP's validity will be three years. Is the PGWP pathway interlinked with Canadian immigration? Candidates having work or study experience in Canada have high tides. Yes, it’s true. As per the Statistics report, 6 out of 10 international students having work experience during or after their studies become permanent residents. Few economic-class immigration pathways, namely: All these programs consider Canadian work or study experiences; in fact, few of them require it to get qualified. For instance, the CEC (Canadian Experience Class) in the Express Entry program needs a minimum of one year of Canadian work experience if the candidate is applying for a skilled occupation. At the same time, the PEQ is popular for French-speaking foreign graduates in Quebec. The candidates who are not eligible for Express Entry are allowed to apply for PNP pathways. PGWP is a one-time deal The Post-Graduation Work Permit is an open work permit, where the eligible candidates can work under any employer and any occupation in Canada. The PGWP is a one-time deal that can be extended and renewed. The PGWP also allows you to work anywhere in Canada. According to Canadian immigration studies, candidates having both Study and work experience will increase their earning potential. Hence, the PGWP opens doors for many of the immigrants in Canada, and this it is highly sought next to the work permit. Talk to Y-Axis today, to find the right path to immigrate to Canada.
