Canada Job vacancy rate increased in the second quarter of 2022

Statistics Canada has released a report which states that the job vacancy rate in this period is 5.7 percent. Overall job vacancy rate is 4.7 percent. There are more than one million job vacancies in Canada. In 2020, the demand for workers exceeded in comparison to the growth in payroll. This resulted in high number of vacancies and many candidates are eager to migrate to Canada to live work and settle.

Rise in number of vacancies in six provinces of Canada

There are six provinces where job vacancies have increased. Ontario saw the largest increase which is 6.6 percent followed by Nova Scotia 6 percent. Below table gives you all the information percentage of increase in each province:

New Brunswick is the only province where job vacancies decreased. Other provinces did not show any rise or drop in the number of job vacancies.

Canada job vacancies per sector in second quarter of 2022

Canada recorded more than Job vacancies per sector can be found in the table below:

The high rate of job vacancy and low rate of unemployment is causing challenges for the employers to fill up the vacant positions. In the second quarter of 2022, it is estimated that for each 100 job vacancies, only 44 candidates have been hired. It is also estimated that by 2030, shortage of workers in Canada will increase as more than nine million people will reach the age of 65 which is the retirement age.
