On August 5, 2021, at 13:11:37 UTC to be precise, the federal government of Canada held the 200th draw under the federal Express Entry system, inviting 3,000 candidates.
Those invited can now proceed to submitting their application for permanent residence in Canada.
Applying for Canada PR via the Express Entry system is by invitation-only. The first step for a skilled worker looking to immigrate to Canada is to submit their profile to the Express Entry pool.
A complete application can be submitted eventually, provided the candidate is invited to do so.
The highest-ranked, based on the 1,200-point Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS], are issued invitations to apply.
Launched in 2015, Express Entry – managed through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] – is an online system for managing applications for permanent residence in Canada from skilled workers.

In the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, since March 2020 when international travel restrictions were imposed, Canada has been focusing on candidates that had a higher likelihood of already being within Canada as compared to those applying from overseas.
Hence, in the recent past, IRCC has mostly alternated between inviting –
[1] those with Canadian experience [making them eligible for the CEC], or
[2] provincial nominees [that is, nominated by a provincial/territorial government in Canada under the Provincial Nominee Program of Canada, also referred to as Canadian PNP.
The previous all-program draw by IRCC was held on December 23, 2020.
With 102,316 invitations so far in 2021, the federal government of Canada appears to be all set to meet and exceed its annual target of welcoming 108,500 through IRCC Express Entry in 2021. |
