The PGP PR intake for 2018 has been increased to 17,000 by Canada in order to support its immigration goals. The Canadian Government has added 7,000 allocations to the 10,000 annual ceiling under the Parent Grandparent Program. This has been revealed through a Ministerial Instruction. It is from the Immigration Minister of Canada Ahmed Hussen.
The update follows the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announcement earlier this week. IRCC had said that it will resume invitations for potential sponsors who had earlier submitted a form for Interest to Sponsor. This was during the last period for Interest to Sponsor during 2 January and 1 February 2018, as quoted by the CIC news.
The instructions revealed yesterday state that the increase in PGP PR quota for 2018 to 17,000 is with a specific purpose. It is to best support the achievement of immigration goals of the Canadian government. This is to see reunited overseas families in the nation.
The extra PGP invitations will be offered through the earlier process of randomized selection. This was used by the IRCC earlier this year to offer invitations. Sponsors who obtain the invitation will have 2 months to submit the complete application. This is from the date they received the invitation.
Parents and Grandparents Program is one among the initiatives of Canada for Family Class sponsorship. It permits successful candidates to apply for Canada PR for their Grandparents and or Parents.
For being able to sponsor one’s Grandparents or Parents for Canada PR, the applicants are required to be:
