Canada held the second Express Entry draw of 2020 on 22nd January inviting 3400 candidates for Permanent Residency.

The minimum cut-off score in the 22nd January draw was 471 which was 2 points lower than the previous draw on 8th January.

IRCC has issued 6,800 ITAs through the Express Entry Program in 2020.

Canada has a higher admission target for both 2020 and 2021. The target for 2020 is 85,800, while that of 2021 is 88,800.

The main source of skilled overseas workers in Canada is the Express Entry Program. Launched in 2015, the Express Entry Program manages the candidate pool of all three major immigration programs of Canada:

  • Federal Skilled Workers Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

All eligible applications are given a score using the Comprehensive Ranking System based on a variety of factors like age, education, work experience, language skills etc. Based on the CRS score, applications are ranked in the Express Entry Pool. Candidates with the highest ranks are invited in regular draws conducted by the IRCC.

Though a job offer is not necessary, you get additional points on your CRS score if you have one from Canada.

The 22nd January draw used the tie-break system. The date and time used were 9th May 2019 at 01:16:02 UTC. Candidates with a score of 471 or more and who had submitted their EOIs before the above date and time were issued an invitation in the latest draw.

The processing time for Canada Permanent Residency applications filed through the Express Entry Program is six months.

Nine Canadian provinces and territories have “enhanced” PNP streams that are linked with the Federal Express Entry Program. These streams invite eligible Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. Some of these provinces have a very low or no CRS requirement at all.

Express Entry candidates who get a provincial nomination earn 600 more points on their CRS score. Hence, those who are not scoring high on their CRS should definitely consider applying for a provincial nomination.
