The latest federal Express Entry Draw #160 was held on August 19, 2020, at 12:41:09 UTC. With a ranking score of CRS 771 and above, 600 candidates with provincial nominations have received invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
CRS stands for Comprehensive Ranking System, a system of establishing the precedence of profiles in the Express Entry system based on a score allotted out of certain factors. The CRS score is out of a total of 1,200. Canada eligibility calculation, on the other hand, is out of 100 points.
As this was a PNP-specific draw, the CRS was on the higher side. A provincial nomination in itself gets the Express Entry candidate an additional 600 CRS points. Hence, without the nomination, the invited candidates would have had a CRS score of 171 made up of human capital factors.
The previous Express Entry draw was held on August 6, 2020.
The tie-breaking rule applied in the round was that of July 24, 2020 at 11:39:23 UTC. As per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC], “If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.”
Canada’s Express Entry system manages the pool of candidates for 3 of the main economic immigration programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Program [FSWP], the Federal Skilled Trades Program [FSTP], and the Canadian Experience Class [CEC] – of the Canadian government.
Provinces and territories part of the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] with Express Entry-aligned streams routinely goes through the pool of candidates. Following this, candidates found to possess the most potential for thriving in their respective province/territory are invited to apply for a provincial nomination.
In order to be considered by any province/territory for a nomination through the PNP, the candidate must have created their Expression of Interest [EOI] profile with the respective PNP.
Once a candidate is successful in securing a provincial nomination, they can apply to IRCC for Canada PR.
