Canada has invited another 5,000 candidates in latest Express Entry Draw #169 held on December 9, 2020 at 14:30:47 UTC. With the latest round of invitations, a record-breaking total of 102,350 invitations to apply [ITAs] have been issued in 2020 so far.
Those invited can now proceed to applying to the federal government of Canada for their permanent residence in Canada.
The previous Express Entry draw was held on November 25, 2020.
As no program had been specified by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] for the latest Express Entry draw, candidates under any of following programs were eligible for receiving invitations –

In order to be invited, the candidates were required to have a minimum ranking score – the Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score – of 469.
Out of a maximum 1,200 CRS points available, while 600 are core points given on human capital factors [age, education, work experience, and language ability], another 600 points are kept aside for “additional factors”.
Up to 200 CRS points can be got through arranged employment in Canada, that is, a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. The number of points given for arranged employment depend upon the National Occupational Classification [NOC] code that the job comes under.
Now, a provincial or territorial nomination – under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada – fetches a candidate 600 CRS points, thereby guaranteeing that the nominee will be issued an ITA in the next round of invitations by IRCC.
Job offer in NOC 00 | 200 CRS points |
Job offer in any other NOC 0, A, B | 50 CRS points |
PNP nomination | 600 CRS points |
The tie-breaking rule applied in the December 9 was that of June 4, 2020 at 22:26:05 UTC.
As per the tie-breaking rule applied by IRCC, “If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.”
The tie-breaking rule is only applicable to profiles with the minimum CRS cut-off as per the specific draw. Hence, in the December 9 IRCC draw, those candidates with a CRS of 469 and above received an invitation that had created their Express Entry profile before the tie-breaking rule applied.
With the latest Express Entry draw – the 36th Express Entry draw in 2020 – a total of 102,350 ITAs have been issued so far this year.
