Canada is updating its immigration policies for foreign work permits and visas to align them with the demand for them in the labor market. The country is planning to address the increased influx of foreign workers and students in Canada.
The IRCC will release the Immigration Levels Plan for the next 3 years by November 01, 2024. The Plan will have new rules and regulations to manage the surge of immigrants in Canada.

One of the major changes to the introduced by IRCC is a new language proficiency requirement for Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) courses. Candidates applying after November 01, 2024, must demonstrate a minimum language proficiency of CLB 7 or equivalent.
College graduates must have minimum language proficiency of CLB 5 to be considered eligible. These changes are intended to ensure that applicants are well-qualified to obtain Canada PR later.
The IRCC has also announced updates to Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) eligibility criteria. Spouses of highly skilled, specialised workers, such as engineers, executives, lawyers, scientists, as well as workers in industries that are facing key labour shortages will be granted SOWPs from 2025.
