Canada may welcome 454,410 permanent residents this year
Canada has already welcomed 113,535 permanent residents in the first three months of 2022. This data has been provided by IRCC. This record-breaking immigration may welcome 454,410 immigrants to Canada.
Primary drivers for surge
The surge has happened due to the following two drivers
For temporary to permanent residents, people started sending applications in 2021 and new arrivals were seen in 2021 and in 2022 also. This led to the increase in the number of permanent residents. Under the Ottawa levels plan, Canada has plans to invite 32,000 permanent residents this year.
In the case of Ottawa commitment to refugees, Ottawa has invited people from Afghanistan and Ukraine. In the first quarter, Canada has invited 16,465 candidates to Canada. The table below will show the number of refugees invited in the first quarter of 2020, 2021, and 2022:
