Canada plans to increase its intake of international immigrants. The 2022-2024 immigration levels plan targets 23,500 additional Canada PR or permanent residents through the PGP or Parents and Grandparents Program in the coming three years.
There has been an increase of 36% in the figures since the last PGP. In 2021, there had been a target of 23,500 through the said program.

The PGP plans to add more than 60,000 new international immigrants through the PGP. The detailed information for the intake in the 2022-2024 plans is given below:

The PGP is a popular program formulated by the IRCC.
For this process, the sponsors have to submit the form of 'Interest to Sponsor' within one month. The sponsors are selected in the draw from the pool. They are issued ITAs to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada.
Process of PGP
The IRCC conducts the PGP through a lottery system. The process of PGP is given as follows:
The citizens and permanent residents of Canada have to submit a form for Interest to Sponsor to be considered in the pool.
IRCC conducts unscheduled draws and issues ITAs to the selected applicants of the PGP program.
The applicants and their parents and grandparents have to submit an application within 60 days.
Who can apply for the PGP?
These are the people who can apply for the PGP.
The citizens and permanent residents of Canada can sponsor their parents and grandparents.
The parents and grandparents of common-law partners or spouses are also eligible.
The sponsor's sisters and brothers, or half-sisters and half-brothers are eligible only if they are counted as dependent children.
More than one person or a couple can sponsor if the requirements of financial conditions are met.
Should be a citizen, PR, or a person registered as an Indian in the Canadian Indian Act of Canada.
Have the minimum income requirements in the last three years. The applicant can include the co-signer's income in their application to be eligible.
Have sufficient funds to support the people they want to sponsor.
Legally agree to support parents or grandparents for the next twenty years from the exact date they are granted the Canada PR.
Repay the Canadian government for the social assistance they might have availed of for their parents or grandparents

Those who do not qualify for the PGP can opt for a Parents and Grandparents Super Visa. The super visa facilitates multiple visits for ten years. It allows parents or grandparents to visit Canada for a continuous period of two years.
