In a recent announcement, The Canadian government has introduced a new LMIA-exempt work permit for eight tech firms in the country. The new work permit is a part of the Innovation stream under the International Mobility Program (IMP) which was launched in 2023.
Canadian employers who have taken part in the Global Hypergrowth Project can hire eligible foreign worker without the requirement of Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Skilled foreign workers with a job offer from these employers can obtain an employer specific work permit.
The eight selected companies have been identified as industry leads with the potential of bringing innovation. Selected foreign workers recruited by these companies can get an LMIA-exempt work permit.

You would be eligible for the new LMIA-exempt work permit under the Innovation stream if you:
Candidates living both outside and inside Canada can apply for this work permit. Applicants whose job role is listed under NOC TEER 0 or 1 can qualify for faster processing time.
