There are three provinces in which 80 percent of the 64,200 spouse and partner immigrants were welcomed in 2021. These provinces are British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. Ontario has welcomed most of these immigrants according to Open Government figures. Around 29.000 spouse and partner immigrants were welcomed in Ontario, which is 45 percent of the total.

The next province is British Columbia that welcomed 12,000 immigrants, which was 18.5 percent of the total. The last one is Quebec which welcomed 11,000 immigrants and which was 17.3 percent of the total.
Canada has plans to provide permanent residence to 80,000 immigrants, which will include spouses, partners, and children. The total number of Family Class immigrants is 105,000. Besides 80,000 immigrants, the remaining will be invited through the Parents and Grandparents program.

Due to COVID-19, the processing time for the spousal reunification stream increased. Sean Fraser stated in January that this stream has returned to its 12-month processing. The Federal High Skilled Workers stream is another one in which processing time is long.
Status checking by family sponsorship applicants
A new application tracker has been launched, which candidates can use to check the status. The previous launch of the application could be used by the permanent residence applicants in the partner, dependent children, and spouse categories.
