Supplemental Cap for H-2B Visas in FY 2025

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) along with the US Department of Labor has recently announced that the US will be issuing additional 64,716 H-2B visas in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025.

The Congress-mandated cap count for H-2B visas is set at 66,000 for each annual year. The DHS, in collaboration with the DOL, has decided to grant supplementary visas in addition to the H-2B visa cap to meet the workforce demand in American business industries, such as landscaping, seafood processing, hospitality, and tourism.

Reasons for the supplemental cap on US H-2B visas in FY 2025

The additional visas will address the temporary requirement for workers in areas where local workers are not available. The US Secretary of Homeland Security stated that the DHS is trying to meet the demands of American businesses by maximizing the H-2B visa program. The Department is also trying to prioritize customer satisfaction by keeping prices low.

The new supplemental rule will also allocate 20,000 additional visas to workers from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Haiti, Colombia, Ecuador and Costa Rica. The DHS has also allocated 44,716 additional visas to returning H-2B visa holders or who received the H-2B status in other ways in the past 3 fiscal years.
