EU nationals will need UK Visas post-Brexit

EU nationals will require UK Visas in the post-Brexit period if they intend to arrive at the nation on a long-term basis. This is because the rule of free movement of nationals will be no more valid. It has been declared in the approved Political Declaration draft by London and Brussels. This pertains to the future ties between the UK and the EU.

The draft elaborates that parties are intended to ensure visa-free regime for short trips by means of domestic legislation. Thus it does not include a visa-free entry for a long term. Brussels and London have agreed to coordinate in the future. This is for introducing visas for long-term stays, as quoted by the KOZWEEK.

The 26-page Declaration states that the parties agreed to consider the conditions for stay and entry. This is with regards to training, study, conducting research and exchange of young students.

Brussels and London have indicated that return to the visa regime will imply that UK Visas will be needed by EU nationals and vice versa. This is because the UK has decided to terminate the existing EU rule for free movement of nationals. The parties must now agree on fresh laws for movement, adds the draft.

The Political declaration draft was agreed at a 2-hour meeting in Brussels. This was between UK Prime Minister Theresa May and Jean-Claude Juncker the President of the European Commission. The document has also been sent to all the leaders of the 27 EU Nations ahead of the emergency meeting.
