In the latest round of invitations – Express Entry Draw #180 held on March 31, 2021 at 11:21:22 UTC– another 284 Canada immigration candidates have been invited by the federal government of Canada.
Those invited can now proceed to applying to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] for their permanent residence in Canada.
Continuing with the trend of targeting candidates that were more likely to already be within Canada, as per IRCC, “Candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program were eligible for this round of invitations”.
Of the 10 provinces and 3 territories that together make up Canada, 9 provinces [with the exception of Quebec] and 2 territories [with the exception of Nunavut] are a part of Canada PNP.
While Quebec has its own immigration program under the Canada-Quebec Accord, Nunavut has no immigration program for the induction of newcomers into the territory.
An Overview of Express Entry Draw #180 | |

Number of invitations issued | 284 |

Minimum CRS cut-off | CRS 778 [PNP nomination = 600 CRS points] |

Invitations issued by date [March 31] | 22,600 [in 2020] | 44,124 [in 2021] |
Note.- CRS: Comprehensive Ranking System.
As this was a PNP-specific Express Entry draw, the CRS was on the higher side.
A PNP nomination on its own fetches 600 CRS points, thereby guaranteeing an invitation by IRCC.
As on March 29, 2021, there were 165,476profiles in the IRCC Express Entry pool of candidates.
Applying for Canadian permanent residence is by invitation only. It is the highest-ranking Express Entry profiles – based on their CRS scores – that are issued Invitations to Apply [ITAs] by IRCC.
With the tie-breaking rule applied to the latest Express Entry draw by IRCC, all those Express Entry candidates that were provincial nominees and had a CRS of 778 and above received invitations, provided they had entered their profiles into the pool of candidates before March 16, 2021 at 16:09:32 UTC.
The tie-breaking rule by IRCC is only applicable to profiles that had the minimum required CRS cut-off.
According to IRCC, “If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles”.
Put simply, if more than 1 Express Entry profiles has the minimum CRS required, precedence will be given to profiles created earlier as compared to those created at a later date.
This is the 10th draw to be held by IRCC so far in 2021. With the latest draw, a total of 44,124 have been invited so far this year to apply for their Canada PR.
The Express Entry admissions target for 2021 stands at 108,500.
