The latest round of invitations under the Express Entry system of Canada has been held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].
On February 10, 2021, a total of 654 Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination – under the Express Entry linked streams of the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada – have been invited to apply for their Canadian permanent residence.
An Overview of Express Entry Draw #175 | |
Date and Time of round | February 10, 2021 at 14:31:18 UTC |
Number of invitation issued | 654 |
Candidate invited from | Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] |
Minimum CRS cut-off | CRS 720 [Note. PNP nomination = 600 CRS points] |
Tie-breaking rule applied | August 14, 2020 at 06:51:00 UTC |
Invitations issued by date [February 10] | 10,300 [in 2020] | 10,654 [in 2021] |
As this was a program-specific draw, only Canada immigration candidates from the PNP were eligible for this round of invitations.
The minimum CRS required of 720 points, though apparently on the higher side, is due to the fact that PNP nominees were specifically targeted by IRCC.
A provincial nomination under the PNP leads to 600 points being automatically added to the ranking score – determined by the CRS – of the candidate’s profile while in the Express Entry pool. Of the maximum 1,200 points that come under the CRS, 600 points are for human capital factors [age, education, language proficiency etc.]. Another 600 points are ‘additional’ CRS points. With a PNP nomination getting 600 CRS points, securing a PNP nomination is a guarantee of the candidate being issued an ITA by IRCC in a subsequent federal Express Entry draw. |
A tie-breaking rule of August 14, 2020 at 06:51:00 UTC was applied by IRCC in Express Entry Draw 175.
The tie-breaking rule is only applicable to profiles that have the lowest score required, that is, 720 in this case. As per IRCC, “If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.”
Simply put, profiles that had been entered into the Express Entry pool at an earlier date gain precedence over those submitted at a later date.
Of the 401,000 newcomers to be welcomed by Canada in 2021, around 108,500 are to be Federal High Skilled. |
Despite 2020 being an unprecedented year, a record 107,350 ITAs were issued by IRCC in 2020.
Canada remains the most-accepting country for a migrant.
